Here at Desert Haven, the no-kill companion animal sanctuary in our area of the Desert Southwest, it is heartwarming to have the unique opportunity to make a difference – often between Life and Death – in the life of each and every furry little one we are able to rescue.

Several weeks ago, a sweet little Chihuahua named Pinion lost his beloved human. The elderly lady’s grieving daughter, Melanie, was tasked with helping find Pinion a new home. Several challenges were standing in the way: Pinion had lived his entire life by the side of the one and only human he knew. Consequently, he was never socialized. Melanie reached out to us for help. We worked with her and Pinion, to assess and improve his adoptability. A smart little fur-boy, he soon learned new skills and great behaviors and his sweet personality came through.

Melanie cared for him while we listed Pinion on our www.DesertHaven.Petfinder.com page as part of our SCHS Adopt-a-Pet Referral program. It was Teamwork at its best. Thanks to Michael, the volunteer Dog Trainer at Desert Haven, Adoption Coordinator Greta and other DHAR team members, together with Melanie’s loving concern and care of her mom’s dog, Pinion has now found a wonderful new home. A happy ending to a story that could have ended on a very sad note for the fur-boy. Interested in accessing our Adopt-a-Pet Referral program? Contact us at 575-894-1694.
