This week, the heat of the summer is on the mind of everyone experiencing this extreme heat wave – extreme, even for our area of the Desert Southwest.  At Desert Haven Animal Refuge, our volunteer team continues to ensure that each little resident – dog and cat – has full access to shade and plenty of fresh water. At Dogtown, all our furry residents have kiddie swimming pools in each of their play yards, to lay in and play in to stay cool on these super warm days. Inside the Cool Cat Neighborhood, every resident has access to shady and cool spots to lay and rest. And of course, all our little Neighborhood residents enjoy unlimited access to large containers of clean and fresh water throughout the approximately 1200 square feet of the feline section of the sanctuary.

We sincerely appreciate all our supporters’ vote of confidence and their contributions, both financial and in-kind. We thank local residents Ashley and Kyle who recently donated – and delivered – a non-working chest freezer for pet food storage at Desert Haven. Melissa of Las Cruces, your recent donation that is going to be used towards our on-going veterinary expenses – which continue to be extensive and expensive – is heartwarming.  After all, routinely bringing our little rescues back to health, and keeping them in good health – both emotional and mental health – as we search for their very-best Forever Home, local and from all over the US, requires substantial financial support from our members and supporters. (Thank-you Greta, our on-site Adoption Coordinator, for utilizing to the fullest Facebook, Petfinder and every cyberspace outlet available to our animal welfare organization and for also  working hard at insuring that each little one goes to the new home that fits their own temperament and the temperament of every one living there ).  After visiting our Cool Cat Neighborhood and spending time with our “greeters” and most outgoing kitties, Melissa mentioned how impressed she was with everything that she saw and witnessed, also with the work we are doing at our humble, still very successful sanctuary.  Our heartfelt thank-you to local resident Kerin, for volunteering at the sanctuary for several years now and for her most recent contribution for our little rescues too. Kerin, you are truly a jewel to all of us at DHAR! Humans and non-humans alike.

Our wish-list: volunteer manpower at Paws & Claws Thrift Shoppe and Desert Haven. We have projects, large and small, in need of immediate attention. Some require a handy person or two, others require effort and time, and the genuine interest in helping our team make a difference, in one way or another.  Contact us at weR4pets@gmail.com, at 575-894-1694 or 575-894-2639.
