Once again, we need to remind our readers that a totally erroneous belief continues to be circulated in this area especially, that small non-profits animal welfare organizations, like the Sierra County Humane Society & Desert Haven Animal Refuge benefit financially from the larger, widely known animal advocacy organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). This is totally NOT TRUE.

Not a single penny donated to any of those national organizations trickles down to small regional organizations like ours.  The Humane Society of the US (HSUS) for example, is neither a parent nor chapter organization for any non-profit animal aid group. So, please, when you wish to help an animal welfare organization you believe is worthy of your donated dollars, contribute directly to that specific organization. You will know exactly where your money goes: directly to the animals that you want to help.

Recently we have been in the position to rescue and add Paul, Hattie, Trixie and April to our Cool Cat Neighborhood, also Smokey Blue, Tiny, Rita to Dogtown – not bad for a small, humble sanctuary operated entirely by volunteers in one of the most impoverished area in our entire country.  Each little rescue has a unique personality which we find so heartwarming to watch unfold as they gain comfort, trust  and understanding within their new surroundings. All are now listed for adoption on our Desert Haven page at DesertHaven.Petfinder.com.

When Bud, a local resident, reached out to us for help re-homing his two dogs, we offered him use of our Adopt-a-Pet Referral Program. Bud’s dogs are now listed on our www.Petfinder.com page and you can call Bud directly at 575-267-4399. For more information on this specific program, call us at 575-894-1694.

This week’s wish list: Canned and dry puppy and kitten food. We also need several non-working fridges and chest freezers  at Desert Haven. They are absolutely great for pet food storage. Please get in touch with us at weR4pets@gmail.com or 575-894-2639 if you have a fridge or freezer you are able to donate to our cause. Thank you in advance! Please continue to save your Bullocks receipts for our organization. Drop them off at the TorC Public Library, Paws & Claws Thrift Shoppe or the Williamsburg Post Office. You can also mail them to us at SCHS & Desert Haven Animal Refuge, PO BOX 638, Williamsburg, NM 87942. Chat with us at www.Facebook.com/DesertHaven. and www.Facebook.com/PawsnClawsThriftShoppe. Visit us at www.sierracountyhumanesociety.com to click on our donate button if you would like to make a contribution via Paypal. Together, we make a difference.
