This week, the Desert Haven Animal Refuge volunteer team wants to share with everyone their sincere appreciation to Josh of WA. When his elderly mom, who resides in this area, became unable to care for her two beloved cats, Cinder and Buddy, Josh not only took the time needed, all the way from his WA home, to search for and finally find the very best place available at the time for them to have the chance for a new life in a new environment, but he also took care of the details and transportation of his mom’s companion felines to arrive safely at Desert Haven Animal Refuge. To thank us for taking them in at our small no-kill sanctuary, he also provided all our fabulous feline residents with several containers of much needed kitty litter, also of canned premium pate for their breakfasts, all of it ordered from and shipped by Chewy.  We sincerely appreciate Josh’s thoughtfulness. This week, we also received a large box of brand-new Sturdy dog toys. There was no name of the contributor anywhere on or inside the box. Consequently, we have yet to be able to identify in order to thank this generous person personally. To anyone who donates to us through various companies including Amazon and Chewy, please be aware that most of them do not print the name of the person who ordered and paid for the order. 

Our animal welfare organization reminds all Sierra County residents of our Spay-a-Stray program.  S.C. Residents who help a stray feline around their home survive with food, fresh water and protection from the elements, are eligible, through our SCHS Spay-a-Stray program, to have this feline sterilized at no cost to them, courtesy of our organization. Contact us at 575-894-1694 and leave a message. When leaving phone messages on our DHAR office phone, state your name and phone number very clearly – and twice. As an all-volunteer staff, we continue to work hard for the betterment of companion animals in our little corner of New Mexico.
