Along with the rest of our Great Country, our little corner of the Desert Southwest experienced an unusually frigid and snowy winter storm this week.

Desert Haven Animal Refuge, the no-kill companion animal sanctuary that operates under the umbrella of the Sierra County Humane Society, quickly entered its emergency weather phase. All the furry residents, dogs and cats alike, were kept warm throughout the storm inside the Inn at Dogtown and the Feline Dorm in the Cool Cat neighborhood. This major storm is already on its way out and we will gladly get back to our warmer, more normal temperatures.

One aspect of our Animal Welfare organization that sustains us, even in these frigid days and nights, is the loyal on-going support from so many of our members and supporters. A very thoughtful supporter from ABQ outfitted our Dogtown residents with pet beds that are raised up off the cement floor They came in at the perfect time indeed. Every single donor is valuable in bettering the lives of the companion animals we serve here in Sierra County. Case in point, Walter of Albuquerque, NM, who volunteered at the sanctuary a few years back before his health forced him to move closer to the hospital in ABQ, helps sustain our work by donating to us – cash – whatever he can on any month of the year. We think of our dear friend Walter very fondly. This strong and consistent show of support from Walter makes us and all our fur babies smile with gratitude. Every one of our contributors is an integral part of our work of love. When you donate regularly to our cause, and we can count on your contribution,  you make a huge difference in helping us sustain the daily operation at our no-kill companion animal sanctuary.
