These past few days,  Desert Haven Animal Refuge was able to rescue three more furry little ones, thanks to our loyal and generous supporters who continue to provide the resources needed to save these little lives. Six years old Annie, a very gentle miniature poodle-terrier mix was given up by her human whose failing health would not allow her to properly care for Annie – and sadly, it shows. Harley’s human passed recently, leaving the 2 years old Australian Shepherd-mix an orphan. Both are just now settling at Dogtown. Sweet little Amber is a juvenile Havana Brown feline and our Cool Cat Neighborhood has become her new home until she melts someone’s heart and moves to her forever home.  Here at Desert Haven, we witness first-hand the trauma many fur-boys and girls go through after experiencing the confusion and sensory overload that come with all-of-a-sudden losing the only environment they know. We are grateful to all the members of our team who go above and beyond to help our little rescues feel loved and understood as they slowly transition into their new life. This is a Work-of-Love in progress, indeed., but so fulfilling, as we change the lives of all the little ones we have the space and resources to take in at Desert Haven.

Our community-minded Adopt-A-Pet Referral program is aimed at giving another chance at life to companion animals in need of a new home. We advertise them on our Petfinder page, just as we do our Desert Haven residents. Mia is the latest recipient of this life-saving program. This very sweet 10-12 months old puppy is good with dogs and kids. For more information on adopting Mia, contact Ashlee at 575-740-6177.

We remind our local friends and supporters to please save your aluminum cans and Bullock’s receipts for our non-profit animal welfare organization.  Our Can Corral is located next to Paws & Claws Thrift Shoppe which is adjacent to the TorC Family Dollar. You can also drop them off next to our donation box at the entrance to Desert Haven. Our Bullocks receipts collection box is located at the Williamsburg Post Office and at Paws & Claws. It all adds up for our little rescues. Thank you!

This week’s wish list: canned dog food – dry food for small breed adult dogs. We are currently looking for a local resident who will kindly volunteer time and talent to groom some of our dogs after their arrival at our sanctuary. More often than not, our little rescues need extra loving care, both emotional and physical. Contact us at weR4pets@gmail.com or 575-575-894-2639. Our mailing address is: SCHS & Desert Haven Animal Refuge, PO BOX 638, Williamsburg, NM 87942. Chat with us at www.Facebook.com/DesertHaven.  Visit us at www.sierracountyhumanesociety.com to click on our donate button if you wish to make a contribution via Paypal. Together, we make a difference.
