HUMANE HAPPENINGS – WEEK OF OCTOBER 18, 2020

A deep loss was recently felt in our community. Codi Winters and her beloved Labrador, Maggi, lost their lives together in a fire that destroyed their home locally. Maggi was one of the little rescues at Desert Haven Animal Refuge. When Codi and Maggi met at the sanctuary for the first time one Tuesday some months ago, the connection was undeniable – our team quickly realized that Codi was a genuine animal lover. We all knew that she would take wonderful care of her new furry best friend. Codi and Maggi soon became inseparable. When the fire destroyed the home, Cody and Maggi were found at each other’s side, inside it. Their memory lives on, as Cody’s family has chosen to direct donations to our animal welfare organization and Desert Haven which it owns and operates, in memory of Codi and her beloved companion Maggi. In this most difficult time, we offer our heartfelt condolences to Codi’s family and friends.
This week, our Desert Haven team received a surprise visit from a couple visiting the TorC area, all the way from their California home. Jim and Janice drove to Desert Haven, said “hello” as they let us know that they subscribe to the Sentinel newspaper and that they read this very article every week. They read in a recent Humane Happenings article that we needed donations of canned dog and cat food. So, they decided to drop-off, directly at our sanctuary, a generous contribution of canned dog and cat food for our little residents. What a special treat! Jim and Janice plan to relocate to our area in the near-future. We look forward to meeting them again when they become full-fledged Sierra County residents. In addition, we wish to also thank the Sentinel newspaper for posting our article every week. We sincerely enjoy sharing our happenings with you and quite appreciate our readership both far and wide.
This week, we added four well-socialized kittens to our Desert Haven Animal Refuge page on Petfinder. Check their information at DesertHaven.Petfinder.com. You can contact their human caretaker, Elizabeth, directly at 575-517-0280. Our mailing address is: SCHS & Desert Haven Animal Refuge, PO BOX 638, Williamsburg, NM 87942. Please visit us at www.DesertHavenAnimalRefuge.com to click on our donate button if you’d like to make a contribution via Paypal.
Together, we make a difference.
