The active Sierra County Humane Society volunteers (SCHS), both at Desert Haven Animal Refuge and Paws & Claws Thrift Shoppe, are still reeling from the shock of losing a dear friend and fellow animal-lover, Larry, the Vice President of the SCHS our Board of Directors. Our spirits were lifted this week by Ann Marie who sent a generous donation in the memory of Larry, her dear childhood classmate. And then again by Mary of Boca Raton FL who wanted to honor Larry’s memory with a contribution for Desert Haven. These gifts are very thoughtful and Larry would be pleased indeed, to know his memory is being honored in this way. Our dear animal loving friend and active volunteer will be remembered by all of us as the kind, gentle man-with-a-positive attitude that he always was. His two beloved fur-babies, Sandy and Daisy, are back at Desert Haven, where Larry adopted them from several years ago and gave them the most loving, the most wonderful home environment any companion animal could ever dream of – ever. The entire Desert Haven team is giving the two little Dachshunds Sandy and Daisy a lot of extra attention to help them get through their painful transition.

We recently rescued a family of five dogs, Mama Mia and her puppies Veronica, Whitney, Shannon, and Shaggy, relinquished together at the City Shelter after their human became too ill to care for them. These five fur-babies are now residents of Dogtown, and our dedicated volunteers will get them the vetting they need, including sterilizations, and then secure loving homes for them.
