Supporting our community and its companion animals is important to everyone actively involved with the Sierra County Humane Society (SCHS) and Desert Haven Animal Refuge(DHAR), the organization’s no-kill companion animal sanctuary.

Sierra County residents continue to take advantage of the SCHS Adopt-a-Pet Referral program and they are finding success. Someone who had saved two adult cats (Little Red and Fuzz) and four kitten brothers (Tommy, Abraham, Teddy, George) reached out to us for help finding homes for them. This week, all of them have now found their forever homes.

Contact LouAnne at 575-894-2913 to inquire about Sweetie, a momma cat who recently gave birth to several babies. Sweetie and her kittens are available for adoption. With quite a few new kitty residents settling down at our sanctuary’s Cool Cat Neighborhood, we are sending an urgent appeal for more Kitty Cuddlers. All these very young kittens need human interactions on a daily basis, as some of them were born from homeless Momma-cats. All it takes to help a kitten know the value of human touch is gentle and consistent affection and petting. Please come join our wonderful Kitty Cuddler volunteers, Aran and Kerin, to help our kittens thrive. When leaving a phone message please state your phone number clearly, and twice, so we can return the call promptly. You can also visit Desert Haven and all the kitties on a Tuesday, between 10 am and 4 pm, and spend as much time with them as you want.
