The Sierra County Humane Society (SCHS), organized in 1989, has become over the years the strong, pro-active 501-c-3 non-profit animal welfare organization that it is Today. The positive impact that it makes in South Central New Mexico, by far one of the most impoverished area of our entire country, is significant. The powerful energy, the dedication, the compassion of its volunteers is only equal to the solid leadership that has kept it going forward and successful over the years through many obstacles along the way.
Some of our volunteers are year-long residents who want to be part of the Good that we are doing in Sierra County, others are seasonal residents to our area, attracted by our lakes and the great year-round weather. We also value our work campers, who often travel across-country to help-out a cause they strongly believe in. Lesia is from TX, Mark W from Northern NM, then we have Greta from MN. All of them consider themselves long-termers now. This Summer, we were thrilled to add to our work-camping team Mark P from NJ, Wendy from MA and Kimber from ID. We are grateful indeed, to have a hard-working, well-rounded, dedicated cohesive team at Desert Haven, the no-kill companion animal sanctuary that operates under the umbrella of the SCHS.
We are also thankful to count Carla of Elephant Butte on our volunteer team. Not only she keeps the Paws & Claws Book Nook in order, but she also tallies and redeems all the Bullocks receipts that are donated to our organization. We remind our loyal followers and Bullock’s shoppers to please drop your receipts off at one of our drop boxes located at the Paws & Claws Thrift Shoppe, located adjacent to Family Dollar in TorC and at the Williamsburg Post Office. Every penny we receive from the Cash-For-Clubs program at Bullocks Grocery helps fund our Spay-Neuter and Spay-a-Stray programs.
